Exporting is the most effective way to expand your markets, but it's important to limit the risks. As a general rule, France encourages company exports; only dual-use goods can be confusing.
A dual-use good means a product (including software, technology or know-how) that may have a civilian as well as a military use. Export is not prohibited, but is strongly regulated by the Community Export Control Regime.
If your products are concerned, you will need to obtain an export license and know the exact nomenclature of your goods.
5am Logistics can assist you with your exports of goods.
In order to import goods, it is necessary to prepare some processes.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of actions to take that may guide you in your efforts:
- Know the nature of the product and whether the goods can be exported from the country of origin.
- Ensure that the partner will be able to export the product with the correct authorisations.
- Know the customs codes and origin of the goods to be imported. The applicable duties and taxes will be known after consulting the customs tariff nomenclature.
- Organise transport: depending on the mode of transport and who organises the transport, the INCOTERMS and responsibilities will differ. If you are the importer, you must have an EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification) number. You can apply to Customs for this.
- Choose and manage payment methods.
- Organise import customs clearance: you will need to provide several documents to your transport service provider to allow your goods to be cleared.
Be sure to check issues relating to counterfeiting and European compliance (European certificate of conformity for certain products).
